October 28, 2005 Brethren: I hope this e-mail finds you and your family all well and safe. I know that most of us had storm damage from Hurricane Katrina. Well I made the move and purchased a home in Hammond, Louisiana. Like most of us in the St. Bernard Parish area, I had 9 feet of water that soaked my residence for a week or more. Yes I also lost my Dune Buggy too. It was placed inside W.B. Lee’s garage, which had seven feet of water for a week or more too. I believe that most all the members in St. Bernard Parish had water damage to their homes and dune buggies too. The water level at Andrew Jackson Lodge Hall was around 9 feet. Kris and I walked through the Lodge Hall two weeks ago and everything is ruined. Everything we had in the Lodge Hall was below the 9 feet mark! We were able to secure our Charter & Jewels, however they are all rusted and stuck to the velvet ribbons. The others have rusted chains and jewels, so I doubt that we can salvage any of them. The Charter was also wet, however it is still in tack, in the tube, however we will need to order a new Charter once we get established again. I have both the charter and jewels with me. Please write back to me and let me know where you are and how you and your family are doing. Anyway I was writing to you to inform you that I was able to secure a meeting place for Ideal Lodge to meet. I have established a close friendship with members of Livingston Lodge No. 160, in Hammond, LA. They took a vote this past Thursday night and unanimously voted to allow Ideal Lodge to meet at their Lodge Hall in Hammond, LA until at least December 31, 2006 at no cost to Ideal Lodge!! Brothers, this is what Masonry is all about. They did request that if the electric bill moves up noticeably, that Ideal Lodge chip in to cover that cost. Present from our Lodge were Rt. W. George Lupo, PM, Treasurer, DDGM, Kris Perez, Jr. Warden and myself. Our first meeting will be held on WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 2005 at Livingston Lodge Hall, corner of East Morris & S. Cypress Streets, Hammond, LA 70404. This is located in the heart of Hammond, which is centrally located very near to Interstates 55 & 12. Both Interstates have exits that are within three miles of the Lodge Hall. We will have refreshments served at 6:30 p.m. and the business meeting will commence at 7:30 p.m. This is a very important meeting and every attempt should be made to attend this meeting. I will write to the Grand Lodge and
request that our Charter be moved to Livingston Lodge No. 160, Hammond, LA
for the purpose of meeting and voting to move the Lodge domicile,
temporarily, to that Lodge Hall. Should
the vote of the Lodge be affirmative, I will again request that Ideal
Lodge move the Charter to Hammond, LA for the period voted upon.
We can still remain in the 18th Masonic District, but
will have to commute to the New Orleans area for District meetings, etc. Brethren I have weighed the options we have at this time and I think that this is the best option/opportunity we have at this time. Andrew Jackson Lodge Hall will eventually rise again, however there may not be any one there to attend Lodge for a year or two.
REPORT ON LAST MONTH’S MEETINGS Our second scheduled meeting for September was canceled due to Hurricane Katrina, alone with the District Meeting that we were supposed to host. Both meeting in October were a WASH OUT!!
RELIEF:
Brothers, please remember all of us in your prayers!
Secretary’s Message: The 2006 Dues Cards are in and are still $45.50 this year. Please remit your dues to IDEAL LODGE # 367, c/o: Skip Perez, 12108 Coles Creek Blvd., Hammond, LA 70403 (NEW ADDRESS). Do not mail anything to the Lodge Hall on LeBeau Avenue. Please send all mail to the Coles Creek address, or I WILL NOT receive it! Please remember to add your optional 2¢ worth a day for an additional $7.30. Please make check in the amount of $52.80.
We still have ONE member who has NOT paid for this year! Brother, your dues are due at the first of the year, not the end of the year! How do you expect us to run the Lodge and pay rent, per capita and other expenses, with some of the Brothers holding back until after September of each year?
ALSO, PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS LETTER IS SENT BY E-MAIL TO FOURTEEN (14) MASONS AND THEY WILL NOT GET THE MAILED VERSION. THIS HELPS KEEP THE COST OF THE POSTAGE DOWN AND ALSO PROVIDES THE NEWSLETTER TO THEM, TWO DAYS EARLIER!! IF YOU HAVE AN E-MAIL ADDRESS, PLEASE PROVIDE IT TO: "skipperez@aol.com". THANKS!!
